Joan Blondell was an American actress who won a beauty pageant before starting her film career. She became a prominent figure in the pre-Code era at Warner Brothers, appearing in over 100 films and television productions, particularly during the 1930s. Blondell co-starred with Glenda Farrell in nine films, often portraying gold-diggers. Her notable works include The Blue Veil (1951), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, as well as roles in Grease (1978) and The Champ (1979). Blondell's enduring presence in the industry spanned decades until her passing from leukemia.
