Jim Lovell is a former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain who commanded the Apollo 13 mission, which faced a critical failure but returned safely to Earth. He was the command module pilot of Apollo 8, the inaugural Apollo mission to achieve lunar orbit. Lovell is distinguished as one of only 24 individuals to have traveled to the Moon and is notable for being the first person to fly in space four times. His achievements earned him the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He appeared in the documentary Apollo 11 (2019) and is featured in Apollo 13: Survival (2024).
