Jane Withers was a prolific American actress who began her career as a child performer at the age of three. She gained prominence as one of the most popular child stars during the 1930s and early 1940s, notably appearing alongside Shirley Temple in the film Bright Eyes (1934) as the character Joy Smythe. In addition to her film work, Withers appeared as 'Josephine the Plumber' in a series of commercials for Comet cleanser throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Her later work includes a role in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002). Withers received the Young Artist Award for Former Child Star 'Lifetime Achievement'.
