James Ward Byrkit is an American film director and writer who directed the science fiction thriller Coherence (2014). He co-wrote the script for Rango (2011), collaborating frequently with Gore Verbinski, in which he also performed multiple roles, including Waffles, a horned lizard. Byrkit contributed as a conceptual artist to the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, creating some of the franchise's most memorable sequences. Additionally, he directed the short film Tales of the Code: Wedlocked (2011), a prequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003).
