Herbie Hancock is an American pianist and composer who was a key member of Miles Davis's "second great quintet". He played a significant role in redefining jazz rhythm sections and was instrumental in developing the "post-bop" sound. Hancock's innovative use of synthesizers and funk elements in his music often features melodic and accessible compositions. His notable works include "Cantaloupe Island", "Watermelon Man", "Maiden Voyage", and "Chameleon". He received a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2008 for his tribute album "River: The Joni Letters", marking a historic achievement as only the second jazz album to win this award. Hancock also contributed music to "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (2017).
