George Lucas is an American filmmaker who directed the groundbreaking film THX 1138 in 1971. He is renowned for creating the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises and for founding Lucasfilm, LucasArts, and Industrial Light & Magic. Lucas gained critical acclaim with American Graffiti (1973), which received five Academy Award nominations, and achieved monumental success with Star Wars (1977), which became the highest-grossing film of its time.
