Bruce Johnston is an American musician and songwriter who joined the Beach Boys in 1965, initially filling in for co-founder Brian Wilson. He provided vocals on tracks like "California Girls" (1965) and wrote songs such as "The Nearest Faraway Place" from the album 20/20 (1969). Johnston's early career included arranging and performing on Sandy Nelson's hit "Teen Beat" (1959) and working with notable figures like Phil Spector. After leaving the Beach Boys in 1972, he pursued a solo career, releasing the album Going Public (1977), before rejoining the band in 1978. Johnston tours with the Beach Boys.
