Ava Gardner is an American actress who gained prominence with her role in The Killers (1946). She became one of the most prominent stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a career that peaked in the 1950s through performances in films such as Mogambo (1953), which earned her an Academy Award nomination, The Barefoot Contessa (1954), and The Night of the Iguana (1964), for which she received a BAFTA nomination. Gardner appeared in The Kidnapping of the President (1980) before retiring after a stroke in 1986.
