Arundhati Devi was a pioneering Bengali actor, film director, and writer who made her cinematic debut in Mahaprasthaner Pathey (1952). She received the National Film Award for Best Film Based on High Literary Work in 1967 for her film Chhuti, which also earned a Certificate of Merit at the National Awards. Throughout her career, she collaborated with renowned director Tapan Sinha, whom she married after meeting at the Berlinale in 1957. Devi's notable works include the directorial project Padi Pishir Barmi Baksho, based on a children's novel by Leela Majumdar, and her performance in The Prisoner of Jhind (1961).
